Brexit leader Nigel Farage: 2016 was start of global populist revolution Posted: 24 Feb 2017 11:08 AM PST British politician Nigel Farage heralded 2016 as the beginning of global populist revolution during a speech Friday at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in National Harbor, Md. In a speech titled "Brexit and What it Means for the World," Farage, the former leader of the U.K. Independence Party (UKIP), said that future schoolchildren would study 2016 as the dawn of a new political era — ushered in by the so-called Brexit referendum in the U.K. and the election of President Trump in the U.S. "There is one year that every schoolchild will know, and that year is the year of 2016, because in 2016 we witnessed the beginning of a global political revolution and it's one that is not going to stop. |
Donald Trump’s latest attack on the media was riddled with blatant contradictions Posted: 24 Feb 2017 11:44 AM PST President Donald Trump began his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday with a lengthy rant railing against what he dubbed the "fake news." After weeks of bad headlines, Trump suggested the "dishonest media" falsified stories about issues in his administration by using made-up sources. "And I want you all to know that we are fighting the fake news. It's fake! Phony! Fake!" Trump said. |

New leak could be our first look at Samsung’s final Galaxy S8 hardware Posted: 24 Feb 2017 10:32 AM PST Samsung has no intention of unveiling its next-generation Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ flagship smartphones next week at the annual Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona, Spain. Of course, you wouldn't know that from watching the chatter among Android fans ahead of the show. LG has a new flagship phone set to be unveiled, Nokia will debut three new models, Lenovo reportedly has a new Moto G phone set to be unwrapped, and Huawei's upcoming new flagship is rumored to be an absolute beast. And yet all anyone can seem to focus on is Samsung and its upcoming new Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ handsets, which will be nowhere to be found next week at MWC 2017. We're not terribly surprised, considering how fantastic Samsung's next-gen Galaxy S phones have sounded in leaks and rumors. We saw the full Galaxy S8+ specs sheet leak earlier this week, and the smaller S8 specs emerged soon after. Now, a new leaked photo may very well give the world its first look at Samsung's finalized Galaxy S8 hardware. If more than a dozen independent reports are to be believed, the upcoming new Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will be two of the most impressive smartphones the world has ever seen. They're said to feature a bold redesign that does away with the home button on the front of the phone and narrows all four bezels surrounding the curved Super AMOLED displays. The result will seemingly be a much more impressive screen-to-face ratio, and we've seen a few purported early units leak and match those reports. With the Galaxy S8 and S8+ now just over a month away from being unveiled, it's likely safe to say that hardware has been finalized. And now, a new leaked photo may very well show us that freshly finalized hardware. The image above was posted on a website called Slashleaks this week, and it comes from a user who is believed to have posted accurate leaks in the past. While the source of the image is unclear, the gray box seen covering part of the phone's face could be covering a watermark from any one of a number of online Chinese forums, which have become increasingly popular sources of leaks in recent years. The phone above is pictured in a protective case, so much of the back of the device is obscured. We can see the rear camera, LED flash and sensor cluster, and the relocated fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone, however. We can also see the big, beautiful display that occupies almost the entire face of the phone. Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ during a press conference in late March, and the phones are then expected to go on sale on April 21st. |

Wisconsin man jailed for cutting off woman's pinky finger: media Posted: 25 Feb 2017 12:36 AM PST A Wisconsin man was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison on Friday for cutting off a woman's pinky finger with a machete and trying to close the wound with a blow torch during a ceremony for a fellow fan of a hip hop band, media reported. In August, Jonathan Schrap, 25, and three other people held a "ritualistic memorial" at his home for a fellow fan of hip hop duo Insane Clown Posse who died in 2015, a local ABC affiliate reported, citing a criminal compliant filed by the state. Schrap pleaded no contest earlier this week to a felony charge of second degree reckless injury charge, according to online court records. |
Leggings Legend LuLaRoe Sued for Overcharging Customers on Sales Tax Posted: 24 Feb 2017 01:35 PM PST LuLaRoe, the ridiculously successful fashion company known for its bright and comfortable leggings and genius marketing plan, is in trouble. While the company's innovative direct sales model (one that relies largely on Facebook and other Internet communities) has made many women loyal supporters of the business because it allows them the unique opportunity to build their own pop-up shops and make commission as consultants, the business structure has also had its complications. The California-headquartered company was slammed with a lawsuit on Feb. 17 in U.S. District Court in Western Pennsylvania that alleges it has been illegally collecting sales tax in states that don't have it. |

Magistrates to probe France's Fillon over 'fake jobs' Posted: 24 Feb 2017 07:58 PM PST Francois Fillon, the conservative candidate in France's presidential election, will face a probe by investigating magistrates into claims he gave members of his family fake jobs, prosecutors said. Fillon, one of the frontrunners in the presidential race, will be investigated for alleged embezzlement of public funds and misappropriation of corporate assets, prosecutors said in a statement. The 62-year-old former prime minister has not been charged at this point, but under French law investigating magistrates can decide to bring charges. |

AT&T’s first buy one, get one free deal of 2017 features the iPhone 7 Posted: 24 Feb 2017 08:12 PM PST With Mobile World Congress just around the corner, new smartphones are about to start launching in droves. LG, Motorola, HTC and even Nokia are all expected to bring unreleased handsets to the show in Spain this weekend, but if you don't care about having the latest tech or just want to save a few hundred dollars, you might want to check out AT&T's brand new buy one, get one free deal instead.
Starting on Friday, February 24th, AT&T is offering customers the chance to buy one of four popular smartphones on an AT&T Next or AT&T Next Every Year plan and receive a second phone for free. Eligible devices include the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, Galaxy S7 and LG G5. Also worth noting: the second phone has to be from the same manufacturer, so you can't buy a Galaxy S7 and get a free iPhone 7. As always, the offer isn't as simple as "buy one phone, get a second phone with service for free." When you buy the first phone, you will have the option to add a second line to your plan. You will then receive a monthly bill credit over the course of 24-30 months totaling up to $695 to pay for the second phone. Additionally, AT&T is still offering new customers $650 in credits for switching from another wireless provider. These credits can be applied to the first phone in the BOGO offer, but you should read the fine print:
If you need two new phones on the cheap, this offer is definitely worth your consideration. |

Iran complying with nuclear deal, says UN watchdog Posted: 24 Feb 2017 10:03 AM PST Iran is complying with the landmark nuclear deal it sealed with major world powers in 2015, according to a report from the UN watchdog seen by AFP on Friday. The International Atomic Energy Agency addressed key limits set under the agreement, which is under intense scrutiny after the election of US President Donald Trump. The report said Iran is not pursuing construction of its existing heavy water research reactor and has not enriched uranium above an agreed 3.67 percent-limit. |

Details emerge of Republicans' plans to replace Obamacare Posted: 24 Feb 2017 12:52 PM PST By Yasmeen Abutaleb WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Details of potential Obamacare replacements by U.S. House Republicans emerged in news reports on Friday, as Republican lawmakers have vowed to introduce new legislation in the coming weeks. Republicans have yet to agree on a single detailed policy proposal to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, the signature domestic policy of former Democratic President Barack Obama. One emerging scenario among Republicans is that the millions of people who received health coverage through the expansion of Medicaid would be "grandfathered in," according to the Washington Post. |

Mexico warns of tariffs, spurns U.S. aid under review by Trump Posted: 24 Feb 2017 07:39 PM PST By Frank Jack Daniel MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - An emboldened Mexico hardened its opposition to President Donald Trump on Friday by saying it would retaliate if the United States imposed a border tax and that it can afford to lose financial aid that might be pulled to pay for a border wall. Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray said Mexico could respond to any tax the United States were to unilaterally impose on imports from its southern neighbor to finance the wall with levies on select goods, aimed at U.S. regions most dependent on exports south of the border. |

Verizon’s unlimited advertising is confusing everyong Posted: 24 Feb 2017 11:58 AM PST Verizon has rolled out a thorough ad campaign to go with its new unlimited data plan. As is normal these days, the ads focus on the pricing per line when you have four lines, which works out to $45 per line, plus taxes and fees. Unfortunately for sales reps working in Verzion's stores, wannabe customers don't read the fine print.
Several Verizon retail sources have told BGR that customers are coming in "every hour" asking for "that $45 Unlimited plan," just to be told that actually, it's $80 plus taxes for the plan if there's just one of you. I'm sure Verizon is happy that customers are excited by the pricing of its unlimited plan, but people wanting one line for $45 per month seems to be causing serious problems for the retail outlets. One employee said that "if I have to explain the bad math to one more customer, I'm going to go [around the city] and write '$80' on every Verizon ad I can find." A poster on the Verizon subreddit echoed the comments:
Verizon is definitely not the first wireless network to focus on the per-line unlimited cost, rather than being more upfront about the pricing. Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T have all used per-line pricing in the past, despite the fact that most people don't actually have four lines per account. Still, it seems like people have been waiting so long for a Verizon unlimited plan that this ad campaign has sparked more interest than usual. |

Someone lost a pair of Snuggie-clad goats, but it's OK because they were found Posted: 24 Feb 2017 01:55 PM PST Finding out you've lost a pet is one of the most crushing and terrifying moments to experience. But losing two goats in Snuggies? We can't even imagine what that level of pain would feel like. That's exactly what happened in Nampa, Idaho. The Nampa Police Department discovered two lost goats in their town, who also appear to be wearing Snuggies. In an attempt to find their owner, they posted a picture of the goats to Facebook. SEE ALSO: Dog DGAF when poor owner shells out $1,000 after it swallows a bouncy ball "Have you lost your goats? Or your Snuggies?" the post reads. "The Snuggie-clad ruminants have been transported to the West Valley Humane Society." Fortunately, the goats' owner has been found. All is well with these goats, who were probably nice and cozy the entire time thanks to their Snuggies. Let's not forget to appreciate the amazingly written caption to go along with the photo. I mean, just look at those hashtags: "#WhatsARuminant #TotesMaGoats #WeveGotYourGoat" That's the work of a true social media artist. The officer pictured in the photo has received an outpouring of love from the community. According to multiple comments on the picture, Animal Control Officer Duff is always there to locate lost pets, even sometimes giving them a ride home and calling to follow up on how they are doing after recovery. New leak confirms Moto G5 specs, reveals second model Posted: 24 Feb 2017 04:14 PM PST With just a few days to go until Mobile World Congress 2017, we know basically all there is to know about Motorola's upcoming midrange phones. The Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus have leaked repeatedly throughout the month, but before we head out for the weekend, we have just one more leak to share with you.
On Friday, the specifications for the Moto G5 appeared on GFXBench. A separate leak last week from retailer Ktronix already told us everything we needed to know about the phone, but now we have a secondary source to back up that information. So has anything changed in the week since the specs leaked? According to GFXBench, the Moto G5 will feature a 1080p 5-inch display, 1.4GHz octa-core Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM and will run Android 7.0 out of the box. That all lines up with the information from Ktronix, but there are a few details that have changed since the last leak. While Ktronix claimed that the G5 would feature a 13-megapixel camera, the GFXBench leak only shows a 12-megapixel camera. More importantly, the GFXBench listing appears to imply that there will be two models of the Moto G5. One will come equipped with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage while the second will have 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Presumably the 16GB model would be $50-100 cheaper than the 32GB model. At this point, we have a mostly clear picture of what the Moto G5 and the larger Moto G5 Plus are going to look like, but there are clearly some details that leakers can't agree on. We'll know for sure when Lenovo/Motorola holds its event at MWC 2017 on Sunday, February 26th. |
