Gelernt told the court that he had spent time over the past week in Guatemala trying to locate parents of some of the roughly 300 children in U.S. care and found about two-thirds were refusing to have their child returned to them. Gelernt said parents who refused to be reunited tended to have older children who could be recruited by violent gangs if they returned home.

The original ruling dates back to 2011 and was twice upheld on appeal in Ecuador, but Chevron took its protest to The Hague's Permanent Court of Arbitration, claiming it had already been exonerated of any wrongdoing. The Dutch court decided Ecuador was guilty of "denial of justice" and ordered it to annul its sentence against Chevron, Ecuador's public prosecutor Inigo Salvador said.

    | Syria's Idlib under 'violent' air strikes after Tehran failure Posted: 08 Sep 2018 01:01 PM PDT Al Munţār (Syria) (AFP) - Syria's last major rebel bastion Idlib was Saturday targeted by the "most violent" Russian air strikes in a month, a monitor said, after the failure of a three-way summit on the Syrian conflict. The renewed strikes came a day after the leaders of rebel backer Turkey and regime allies Russia and Iran failed at the summit in Tehran to agree on how to stave off a threatened offensive on the northwestern province of Idlib. Aid organisations have warned that any military campaign to retake the region of nearly three million people on the Turkish border could spark one of the worst humanitarian disasters in Syria's seven-year war.

Some media saw the hands of fierce conservative critics of Francis behind the unprecedented attack on a living pope, including U.S. Cardinal Raymond Burke, who is close to Bannon. You don't just sit there and say 'I think you should resign'," said Bannon during a visit to Rome.

    | Yemen's Houthis want U.N. guarantees for delegation as peace talks in Geneva stall Posted: 07 Sep 2018 12:13 PM PDT U.N.-brokered talks to end Yemen's three-year war were meant to begin on Sept. 6, but only representatives of the Yemeni government of Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi turned up as the Houthis insisted their plane to Geneva be allowed to evacuate dozens of injured people to neighboring Oman. "The United Nations is now facing a choice where it should prove that it refuses the violation of the international and humanitarian law .... not allowing the Omani plane to take the delegation and the wounded is a flagrant violation," a Houthi leader, Mohamed Ali al-Houthi, said late on Friday on Twitter. Houthi said his group also wanted guarantees that their plane supplied by Oman would not have to stop in Djibouti for inspection in both directions, after being "sequestrated" there by the Saudi-led military coalition last time for months.

The proposed pension changes, which are currently going through parliament, have shaved around 15 percentage points off President Vladimir Putin's popularity rating. Navalny, barred from state TV and prevented from running against Putin for president earlier this year, hopes to tap into public anger over the reform.
