Hero dog finds family cat under wreckage 2 months after fire Posted: 17 May 2017 02:26 PM PDT People say cats have nine lives, but we'll always be shocked by what some cats manage to live through. Like Ringer, a cat who somehow survived for two months under the floor of a house that had burned down. SEE ALSO: Omar the long cat is really, really, really long Christine Marr, Ringer's owner, posted about the miraculous rescue on Facebook. Two months ago, a fire destroyed Marr's home. While Marr and her dog Chloe were rescued from the flames, Ringer could not be found. That is, until Marr made a trip back to the spot of her old house with Chloe on Sunday. "[Chloe] was digging and scratching at the floor," Marr recalled in her Facebook post, describing how the dog eventually found a hole in the wall. When she heard cat meows coming from the hole, she got some food to lure the cat out. "And out came Ringer, our cat that we thought perished in the fire," Marr continued. According to West Michigan's local Fox affiliate, emergency personnel were stunned by the discovery and immediately hailed Chloe as a canine hero. Ringer was taken to an animal hospital, where they found he was malnourished and had lost half his body weight. "We're assuming he was eating bugs and spiders and stuff under there," Marr told Fox News. Marr reported on Facebook that Ringer has a feeding tube in his neck and that the process to reintroduce him to solid food will be slow. But, most importantly, Ringer is expected to make a full recovery. WATCH:

The withdrawal of other conservative candidates has turned Friday's election into an unexpectedly tight two-horse race between Rouhani, 68, and hardline cleric Ebrahim Raisi, a 56-year-old protege of the supreme leader. Khamenei's intervention could help sway the vote by signaling dissatisfaction with Rouhani's conduct.

This math question meant for 7-year-olds has everyone stumped Posted: 17 May 2017 03:44 AM PDT A math question apparently meant for seven-year-olds has left adults befuddled. The bonus math question — which allegedly appeared on a first-grade level exam paper in Singapore — has been making the rounds on social media. SEE ALSO: A math problem for 14-year-olds is stumping the world The question shows a circular puzzle with five numbers in it. There are four corresponding blanks that are meant to be filled in, but no further information is given on how to solve it. Image: almondshell/hardwarezoneAdults have been unable to solve it. "Now that I can't solve this, I feel super uncomfortable," said user Kenny Eng on Facebook. "Maybe Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory could have done this when he was seven," said Facebook user Mingli Lin. "I just finished my course on advanced applied math and I can't solve this. Whoever set this is sick," said user Jacky Wu. Where did the math question originally come from? The question first surfaced on an online forum, posted by a user who claims that it was a bonus question taken from a Primary One, or first grade, examination paper. But Singapore's Ministry of Education (MOE) couldn't confirm this. "From the image, we are unable to ascertain if the question was from a school's Primary 1 examination paper," an MOE spokesperson told Mashable in a statement. However, the question bears a striking resemblance to one that has previously appeared on a math blog by Gordon Burgin, who calls himself an author of Maths Puzzles. ( Mashable has reached out to Burgin for comment). The two questions are almost identical, with only one difference. The bottom-left number in Mr Burgin's puzzle is 20 instead of 2. Image: gordon burginAccording to Burgin, the way to solve his puzzle is this: Image: gordon burginIt's not the first time an exam question has left people stumped In 2015, people in Singapore were similarly unable to solve a math question nicknamed "Cheryl's birthday." The question was first reported to be a fifth-grade level question, but was late revealed to be a ninth-grade Maths Olympiad question. So what is the answer to the original math question you ask? Your guess is as good as mine. WATCH: Someone drilled a hole in an iPhone to make a fidget spinner because... the internet

South Korea's Moon says 'high possibility' of conflict with North Posted: 17 May 2017 08:24 AM PDT By Christine Kim SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korean President Moon Jae-in said on Wednesday there was a "high possibility" of conflict with North Korea, which is pressing ahead with nuclear and missile programs it says are needed to counter U.S. aggression. Moon made his comments hours after South Korea, which hosts 28,500 U.S. troops, said it wanted to reopen a channel of dialogue with North Korea as Moon seeks a two-track policy, involving sanctions and talks, to try to rein in its neighbor. North Korea has made no secret of its work to develop a nuclear-tipped missile capable of striking the United States and has ignored calls to halt its nuclear and missile programs, even from China, its lone major ally.

Islamic State mining Mosul to stop families fleeing as Iraqi forces advance Posted: 17 May 2017 06:29 AM PDT By Ahmed Rasheed BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Islamic State militants are planting bombs near front doors in Mosul to prevent civilians leaving, a federal police commander and witnesses said on Wednesday, as Iraqi forces make their final push against the jihadists after seven months of fighting. Trapped in a shrinking area of the city, the militants are increasingly using the several hundred thousand civilians under their control as human shields to avoid being targeted or perhaps tarnish what Iraqi leaders describe as imminent victory. Backed by a U.S.-led coalition, Iraqi forces have made rapid gains since opening a new front in northwest Mosul this month and have now dislodged Islamic State from all but about 12 square km (5 square miles) of the city.

The entire MacBook line is getting updated this month, report claims Posted: 16 May 2017 12:04 PM PDT
Over the past few years, Apple's WWDC event has been a decidedly software-only affair, with nearly all the focus centering on upcoming iterations of iOS, macOS, and more recently, watchOS and tvOS. This year, however, WWDC will be a tad more exciting. Amid reports that Apple has plans to introduce a brand new Siri-based smart speaker and iPad Pro at WWDC next month, we're now getting word that Apple in just a few weeks may also unveil a revamped MacBook Pro and a few other surprises. According to a fresh report from Bloomberg, Apple at WWDC may announce three new notebooks, including a updated MacBook Pro, a new MacBook model, and last but not least, a new MacBook Air. Apple is planning three new laptops, according to people familiar with the matter. The MacBook Pro will get a faster Kaby Lake processor from Intel Corp., said the people, who requested anonymity to discuss internal planning. Apple is also working on a new version of the 12-inch MacBook with a faster Intel chip. The company has also considered updating the aging 13-inch MacBook Air with a new processor as sales of the laptop, Apple's cheapest, remain surprisingly strong, one of the people said. Incidentally, reputed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is on record stating that Apple's 2017 MacBook Pro refresh will include support for 32GB of RAM. Word of a varied Apple notebook refresh is certainly exciting, especially for users who haven't yet pulled the trigger on Apple's new MacBook Pro with the Touch Bar. Upon its initial release last Fall, Apple's flagship notebook was lambasted for being overpriced and underpowered. With a refresh on the horizon, the MacBook Pro will at the very least provide users with more bang for their buck. Additionally, it's reassuring to see that Apple hasn't completely forgotten about the MacBook Air. Indeed, the last time Apple significantly refreshed its svelte notebook was back in 20
