He said worries about SB 4, derided as the "show me your papers" law, that's going into effect next month should be shelved. "If you're in a stressful situation and you need help, you call us for help. We want you to call. There is absolutely no reason why anyone should not call," he said. He added that if anyone gets deported after calling for help, "I and others will be the first ones to stand up with you. I will represent them myself." Under the law, police departments wouldn't be able to ban their officers from asking someone who's been detained about their immigration status. It would also force jails to comply with all Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) requests. Several cities — including Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, and Austin — have joined a lawsuit claiming that SB 4 violates the Constitution. "Put SB 4 on a shelf right now," he said. "Don't hesitate to call. We will respond." He continued to reiterate his message, clearly stating, "If you're in a stressful situation, I don't care who you are, what your status is, I do not want you to run the risk of losing your life or a family member because you are concerned about SB 4." | You know that shark in Houston floodwater photo? It's totally fake. Posted: 28 Aug 2017 09:55 AM PDT  There are many reasons to avoid floodwater whenever possible, but residents of Houston struggling under Tropical Storm Harvey's unprecedented downpour needn't fear a shark. A photo of a shark supposedly swimming through Houston's flooded streets went viral on Monday ... but the photo's fake. SEE ALSO: Hurricane Harvey's deadliest threat is just beginning The shark in this photo isn't native to waters anywhere near the United States, but was originally photographed watching a kayaker in South Africa. Published in a 2005 issue of Africa Geographic, conservation photographer Thomas Peschak snapped the original (and stunning) image while working on a book about great white sharks. Here's how it happened, according to Peschak: The shot is iconic, and the shark in it has repeatedly found new digital life. It's popped up in edited photographs that show the shark swimming through flooded streets in various cities for years, from New Jersey to Puerto Rico. Peschak himself has written about friends sending him emails about pictures of the shark he photographed, except now photoshopped into some other part of the globe. On Aug. 21, 2011, as Hurricane Irene blew through Puerto Rico, Peschak says the shark appeared in an edited photo swimming through a Puerto Rican street. Three days later, it wound up on a news site. The next year, his shark made an appearance swimming through the streets of New Jersey during Hurricane Sandy. "I always look forward to receiving emails from friends and family who have spotted the same white shark in a different context," Peschak wrote on his website. "While I will probably never become a legend in my own right, at least my white shark is well on her way." Sharks shouldn't make the list of things Houston residents are concerned about, but several residents have spotted alligators around as the flooding continues. That said, fake photos of alligators are out there, too. The above photo, for example, has been making some rounds on social media, and while it was taken in Houston, the photo is from April. The National Weather Service didn't mention alligators in an earlier "hurricane safety" tweet, but it did say to avoid floodwater "as it may be electrically charged from underground or downed power lines and may hide dangerous debris or places where the ground is washed away." | US air strikes block convoy of Isil fighters being evacuated under Hizbollah deal Posted: 30 Aug 2017 08:21 AM PDT  The US-led coalition has carried out air strikes to prevent a convoy of Islamic State fighters, who were being evacuated under a controversial truce deal, from reaching territory under its control in eastern Syria. Some 300 Isil militants and 300 of their family members were being bussed from the border region between Lebanon and Syria to an Isil-held town near Syria's eastern frontier with Iraq, after agreeing a surrender. The deal was struck between the militants and both the powerful Lebanese Shia militia Hizbollah and the Syrian government, invoking furious reaction from both the US and Iraq. The coalition said in a statement it had not been party to the agreement and that any "counter-Isil words ring hollow" when Hizbollah and the Syrian regime "cut deals with and allow terrorists to transit territory under their control." The jihadists and civilians, including children, left the border region in 14 buses and 11 ambulances on Monday, but on Wednesday their buses were still held up at the outskirts of Hama province, bordering Isil-held Deir Ezzor. "Our coalition will help ensure that these terrorists can never enter Iraq or escape from what remains of their dwindling 'caliphate'."
