Woman arrested after four female US tourists attacked with acid in Marseille

Woman arrested after four female US tourists attacked with acid in MarseilleFour female US tourists have been attacked with acid in Marseille's main train station. The women, all in their 20s, were sprayed with hydrochloric acid, which hit two of them in the face and the other two hospitalised with shock. The attack took place at Saint-Charles station shortly after 11am on Sunday morning.  Local media reported that it was carried out by a woman believed to be unknown to the  holidaymakers, who were about to travel together  to Paris. The two women sprayed with acid in their faces are aged 20 and 21. One of the women may have an eye injury, a spokeswoman for the Marseille prosecutor's office said. Reports say the acid was in a spray canister  of a kind generally used for cleaning. The attack is not thought to be terror-related. A  41-year-old woman was arrested and detained by the police. The assailant, believed by police to be psychologically disturbed, was arrested minutes after the attack, the spokewoman said.   More than a dozen firefighters rushed to the station in four emergency vehicles after the attack, a witness said. The witness, who declined to be named, told the Telegraph: "It was a horrific scene. The Americans were screaming and people started rushing about. No one knew what was happening and these days everyone is on edge because of terrorism." A French security report revealed by local media this weekend warned that jihadists may try to attack or derail trains. A woman was killed in Marseille last month when a man deliberately drove a vehicle into two bus stops. Police said the attack was not terror-related. In April, police said they had thwarted a terrorist attack days before the first round of the presidential election by arresting two suspected jihadists in Marseille. The port city on France's southern Mediterranean coast has a large immigrant population.  It is plagued by frequent shootouts between rival drugs gangs.

The officer fired five times into Smith's car.  officer Jason Stockley heard pledging to kill Anthony Lamar Smith. He did & then, per DA, planted a gun. A gun found in Smith's car only carried DNA from Stockley.  Although most protests were peaceful, some violence broke out between protesters and police officers late at night. About 1,000 protesters at the mayor's house met 200 police officers in riot gear who used tear gas to disperse the crowds and ward off thrown rocks and bricks.  Twenty-three people were arrested as of 6 p.m. Friday.  "As much as we regret having to cancel, we feel it is the only acceptable course of action in the current environment," U2 said in their statement.  Fans who bought tickets to the show online will receive refunds to their credit cards, and people who bought tickets in person can receive refunds at their point of purchase starting at 10 a.m. Monday.  WATCH: Little girl proves that anyone can handle post Irma clean-up

Hamas says ready to hand Gaza to a Palestinian unity government

Posted: 17 Sep 2017 09:32 AM PDT

Hamas says ready to hand Gaza to a Palestinian unity governmentBy Mohamed el Sherif and Ali Sawafta CAIRO/RAMALLAH (Reuters) - Hamas has agreed to dissolve the administration that runs Gaza, it said on Sunday, a major step towards handing control of the enclave to a Palestinian unity government after a decade of bitter rivalry with President Mahmoud Abbas. The Islamist group, which has ruled Gaza since a brief Palestinian civil war in 2007, said it had taken "a courageous, serious and patriotic decision to dissolve the administrative committee" that runs the territory of 2 million people, and hand power to some form of unity government. Reunification a decade after Hamas and Abbas's secular Fatah movement battled for control of Gaza may hinge on whether complex issues related to power-sharing - which stymied reconciliation bids in the past - can be resolved.
