New riots over police shooting raise the question: What is it about St. Louis? Posted: 19 Sep 2017 02:03 PM PDT In St. Louis, protests over the acquittal of a former police officer in the fatal shooting of a black motorist have degenerated into violent clashes with police. Problems between police and the black community exist well beyond St. Louis and nearby Ferguson. But this week's clashes suggest that racial problems run deep here. |

To make this happen, Gear initially aimed to fly 20 animals to the continental U.S. every day for one week, according to The Virginian-Pilot. |

Basically The Entire Health Care System Hates The New Obamacare Repeal Bill Posted: 20 Sep 2017 05:25 PM PDT The latest Senate Republican attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act and enact sweeping reforms to the American health care system has generated intense opposition from the very health care providers, patient groups and insurance companies that would be forced to adapt to the changes envisioned by the legislation. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, would undo most of the Affordable Care Act and radically refashion the Medicaid program by shrinking the budgets for federal health care programs and turning over the remaining money to states, which would have to devise their own new health care systems. The bill also undermines the Affordable Care Act's protections for people with pre-existing conditions. |

Kenya Supreme Court criticizes election board in verdict on polls Posted: 20 Sep 2017 12:10 PM PDT By George Obulutsa and Maggie Fick NAIROBI (Reuters) - Kenya's Supreme Court on Wednesday criticized the election board for failing to verify official results of last month's presidential election before announcing them, but did not find any individual at the board responsible for the failings. The election board had said incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta won the contest by 1.4 million votes, but opposition leader Raila Odinga challenged the result in the Supreme Court. Kenya is a key Western ally in a region often shaken by violence. |
Posted: 20 Sep 2017 11:03 AM PDT Former President Barack Obama said it's "frustrating to have to mobilize" so often to keep lawmakers from repealing the Affordable Care Act. Speaking at a Gates Foundation event on Wednesday, Obama addressed a health care bill Republicans are trying to hurry through Congress that could have major ramifications for millions of people. "When I see people trying to undo that hard-earned progress for the 50th or 60th time, with bills that would raise costs or reduce coverage, or roll back protections for older Americans or people with pre-existing conditions ... for whom coverage would, once again, be almost unobtainable, it is aggravating," Obama said. |

Greenpeace boards ship in bid to halt delivery of UK-bound VW diesel cars Posted: 21 Sep 2017 08:45 AM PDT By Costas Pitas LONDON (Reuters) - Greenpeace activists boarded a ship arriving in Britain on Thursday to stop the delivery of more than 1,000 Volkswagen cars from Germany while others sought to immobilize vehicles at a port in anti-diesel protests. VW admitted cheating diesel emissions tests in 2015, triggering political and consumer pressure that has caused a slump in sales of diesel cars in major markets, with governments announcing plans to ban vehicles powered by conventional combustion engines. Greenpeace said its volunteers had boarded the ship in the Thames Estuary in an attempt to stop it unloading at the port of Sheerness in the southeast of England. |

Turkey, Iran and Iraq warn of 'counter-measures' against Kurd vote Posted: 21 Sep 2017 02:29 AM PDT Turkey, Iran and Iraq on Thursday urged Iraq's Kurdistan region to abandon a planned referendum on independence, threatening unspecified "counter-measures" if it goes ahead with the vote. The foreign ministers of Turkey, Iran and Iraq held a rare trilateral meeting Wednesday in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, days ahead of the non-binding September 25 referendum. Ankara and Tehran fear independence for the Kurds of northern Iraq would embolden their own Kurdish minorities, and Baghdad has bitterly opposed the plebiscite. |

Trump has used over $230,000 in money raised by the RNC for his own legal defense, according to Reuters. The president is currently under investigation for potential illegal coordination with Russia ― which is alleged to have hacked the Democratic National Committee and intervened in the election to defeat Hillary Clinton ― and for possible obstruction of justice when he fired James Comey, the former FBI director, in May. |
