Apple May Be Playing with Samsung Displays for Its Foldable Phone

Apple May Be Playing with Samsung Displays for Its Foldable PhoneSamsung Mobile will commercially release the $1,980 7.3-inch Samsung Galaxy Fold April 26. It will be a world's first exclusive, but that's not stopping the company's display division from trying to get Apple to buy into its foldable screen technology. Credit: SamsungAccording to SamMobile, Samsung Display has reportedly sent foldable displays to two of its main rivals/clients, Apple and Google. This is not a strange occurrence, though. Samsung Display is already a provider of OLED screens for the iPhone, and the company's flexible OLED technology is probably the most advanced on the planet. It's logical that the OLED panel manufacturer is trying to lure them into the world of foldables by giving them samples for use in prototyping of new flexible iPhones and Pixels.MORE: Samsung Galaxy Fold: Specs, Price, Release Date and MoreCredit: Robby FesterGoogle's Android team has been working with the Galaxy Fold for a while now but, if the report is true, this will mark the first time that the Pixel team could actually be playing with flexible components from Samsung. Google seems to have a special interest in making Android a morphing user experience that can easily adapt from a regular candy bar to a foldable tablet to any future form factor you can think about.Meanwhile, Apple has been filing and getting awarded a lot of patents related to foldable phoneslately. With a stagnant phone market, it is logical that the Cupertino company is looking for new categories with growth potential and big margins — or risk getting left behind once again. And while having Jony Ive and his design minions playing with Samsung's foldable screens is not a confirmation that Apple will release a foldable phone, it certainly could be one of the steps to make it a reality. Will we see foldable Pixels and iPhones soon? My bet is yes, undoubtly so. * Galaxy S10 Plus Review: The Ultimate Android Phone Is Here * Here's the First Photo of the OnePlus 7 and Its Pop-Up Camera * iPhone 2019 Rumors: Release Date, Leaks, Specs and More

Church 'not afraid of history': Pope Francis to open secret Pius XII archivesMany Jews say Pius, who reigned from 1939 to 1958, did not do enough to help those facing persecution by Nazi Germany. Francis' decision was welcomed by Jewish groups and by Israel. The Vatican maintains that Pius chose to work behind the scenes, concerned that public intervention would have worsened the situation for both Jews and Catholics in a wartime Europe dominated by Hitler.

Estonia's far-Right EKRE party threaten election upset

Posted: 02 Mar 2019 10:00 PM PST

Estonia's far-Right EKRE party threaten election upsetEstonia's surging far-Right is threatening to bring down the country's liberal government in elections that mark the spread of populism to the furthest corners of the EU. The country's extremist EKRE party has more than doubled its support ahead of today's election, threatening a significant upset to the country's two main parties. The party, which is set to increase its share of the parliament's 101 seats from 8 to 20, has previously called for an "Estxit" referendum, with recent successes mirroring the rise of right-wing populism across Europe and the US.  A torch-lit march through the capital city of Tallinn last week, part-organised by EKRE, bore a striking resemblance to the Unite the Right "Tiki torch" marches held by Trump supporters in Charlottesville in 2017. Some 10,000 Estonians are believed to have taken part.  EKRE, whose name stands for The Conservative People's Party of Estonia, is capitalising on growing anti-refugee sentiment and concerns that the tiny nation might be swallowed up into a federalised EU. The tenure of Estonian Prime Minister Juri Ratas is under threat from the surging far-Right EKRE party Credit: Mohamed Abd El Ghany/Reuters Tajo Kadajas, 65, from Estonia's second-largest city of Tartu, said he voted for EKRE over fears that the country was losing its identity. "The EU has forced quotas on us, to attract thousands of migrants. Members of our parliament just push buttons, rubber stamping all the laws that come out of Brussels". "I voted EKRE because they stand for the preservation of our nation, and our Estonian culture and language". However, this anti-refugee sentiment stands at odds to official statistics. Of the 550 refugees Estonia was required to take in, it is estimated that only 206 asylum seekers ever arrived in the country and that 80 of those have already left. EKRE's rise has followed populist Right-wing movements sweeping Europe from north-to-south, Italy Sweden. But while many parties are share sympathetic views towards Russia, EKRE takes a hard line against its neighbour. Nationalist sentiment in Estonia is rooted in Russian expansionism and aggression, and among EKRE's promises are to close the Russian-speaking schools that cater for 20 per cent of the country's school-age population.  The upswell in support for EKRE is sweeping away smaller parties that traditionally make up a centrist coalition.  Dr Allan Sikk of the UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies said "uneasy bedfellows" from across the political spectrum may need to work together in order to keep EKRE out of power.

Trump blames North Korea summit failure on Cohen testimony

Trump blames North Korea summit failure on Cohen testimonyDonald Trump has claimed his former lawyer Michael Cohen's congressional testimony "may have contributed" to the collapse of last week's US-North Korea talks. The president suggested the House of Representatives Oversight Committee's decision to interview his longtime fixer on the same day he met Kim Jong-un in Hanoi had been a factor in the two leaders' failure to strike a deal. The president abruptly ended Thursday's talks with Mr Kim, telling the media the North Korean leader had demanded "sanctions lifted in their entirety" in exchange for denuclearisation.

Tech giants, artistic creators and EU member states have battled for three years over the reform, with Google making a last-minute effort to dissuade MEPs from passing the law this month.

Not only are all of these pancake recipes free from gluten, but we have also selected some that are suitable for vegans, paleo dieters and those avoiding dairy - as well as those just wanting to eat healthily. After all - is there any better way to kick off Pancake Day than with a big pile of delicious pancakes? Amazing gluten-free pancake recipes Healthy apple and banana oat pancakes Credit: Matt Russell These delicious 10-minute pancakes are gluten-free as well as being sweetened naturally with banana. MAKES Six pancakes INGREDIENTS 1 teacup of oats (about 80g)- use gluten-free oats if you are intollerant 1 apple ½ a teacup of nuts (about 50g) – pecans or almonds (for kids use another ½ cup of oats) 1 cup or about 150ml of milk of your choice (I use unsweetened almond) 1 medium banana coconut oil or butter, for frying To serve 2 apples the juice of ½ a lemon a pinch of cinnamon a tiny grating of nutmeg honey or maple syrup yoghurt of your choice (I use coconut) METHOD Get all your ingredients and equipment together. Put the oats into a blender and blitz until you have a rough scruffy four. Grate the apple. Put the nuts, milk, apple and banana into the blender and blitz until combined. Heat a non-stick pan on a medium heat and add a little coconut oil or butter. Allow it to melt, then add ladlefuls of the pancake batter to make Scotch pancake rounds. Cook for 2–3 minutes, or until bubbles rise to the surface. Use a spatula to carefully fip the pancakes over and cook on the other side. The first batch are always more delicate, so don't worry if they look a bit scruffy. Keep them warm while you cook the rest. Once all your pancakes are done, use a speed peeler to peel your apples into long pieces then put into a bowl and toss with the lemon juice, the cinnamon and nutmeg. Serve the pancakes stacked and topped with the apple, maple syrup and, if you like, a little yoghurt. SERVES Four INGREDIENTS For the plums 12 ripe plums 1 tbsp runny honey 1 tsp mixed spice 1 tsp grated orange zest 2 tbsp orange juice For the pancakes 100g ground almonds 25g coconut flour 1 tsp ground cinnamon 1½ tsp baking-powder 4 organic free-range eggs 200ml coconut milk seeds from 1 vanilla pod 1 tbsp runny honey 2 tbsp coconut oil METHOD Preheat the oven to 200C/gas 6. Cut the plums in half, discard the stones, and place eight of them (16 halves), cut-side up, on a parchment-lined baking-sheet. Mix together the honey, mixed spice, orange zest and juice and pour over the plums. Roast for 15 minutes, then remove and allow to cool. As the plums cool, they will release their natural juice. Blend the remaining four plums with the cooking juices and set aside. Put the ground almonds in a large mixing-bowl. Sift the coconut flour, cinnamon and baking-powder over the top and mix together thoroughly. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs with the coconut milk, vanilla seeds and runny honey, and then beat this into the dry mixture to make a smooth batter. Heat a small non-stick frying-pan over a low heat. Add a little coconut oil and drop a large spoonful of pancake batter into the hot pan (the mixture should be enough for four pancakes). Cook for one minute, then flip the pancake over and cook for a further minute on the other side until golden brown. Slide out of the pan and keep warm while you cook the remaining pancakes in the same way. Reheat the plums gently. Serve the pancakes with the warm plums, drizzled with the plum sauce. SERVES Four; jam recipe makes 6-8 small jars INGREDIENTS For the pancakes 3 ripe bananas 6 organic eggs 100g (3½oz) dessicated coconut 1 tsp ground cinnamon coconut oil, for frying For the jam 3 ripe pomegranates 250g (9oz) frozen raspberries 120ml (4fl oz) agave nectar, or to taste 1 handful fresh thyme leaves juice of ½ lemon METHOD First make the jam. Halve the pomegranates and, holding them upside-down over a large bowl, tap the skin with a wooden spoon so that the seeds and any juice drop into the bowl. Discard the peel and membranes. Alternatively, fill the bowl with water and, with your hands submerged, release the seeds with your fingers, then scoop them out. Put the juice and seeds in a large saucepan, add the raspberries and agave nectar and heat slowly, stirring well. As soon as the mixture begins to boil, lower the heat, stir in the thyme leaves and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes. Meanwhile sterilise the jars by boiling them in hot water for several minutes. Add the lemon juice to the pan. Keep it on the heat for one more minute, then carefully pour it into the sterilised jars and close the lids. Allow to set at room temperature, then refrigerate. This will stay fresh in the fridge for a few weeks. To make the pancakes, peel the bananas and mash with a fork. Whisk the eggs in a bowl, mix with the mashed bananas, add the dessicated coconut and cinnamon, and stir to combine. Heat a little coconut oil in a frying-pan over a medium heat. Pour three small portions of the batter into the pan at a time and fry the pancakes on both sides until golden brown. Serve with the pomegranate jam and a dollop of natural yogurt, if you like. Latest iPhone 11 rumor details new ‘waterproof’ tech and next-gen haptics

Posted: 04 Mar 2019 07:12 AM PST

Latest iPhone 11 rumor details new 'waterproof' tech and next-gen hapticsOver the past few months, we haven't seen a whole lot of rumors surrounding Apple's iPhone 11 lineup. Sure, we know that Apple's iPhone 11 lineup will include successors to the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max, and sure, we know that Face ID will see some performance improvements, but that's not exactly jaw-dropping information. With that said, we're fast approaching that time of the year when the iPhone rumor mill kicks into high gear. For as much as Apple tries to keep product leaks to a minimum, there's really only so much the company can keep under wraps once a final design and feature-set is chosen. In light of that, developer Max Weinbach recently divulged a number of interesting tidbits about Apple's upcoming iPhone 11 to EverythingApplePro. Weinbach doesn't have a long track record with respect to Apple rumors, so as a general rule, you'll probably want to take these rumors with a requisite grain of salt. With that disclaimer out of the way, let's dive in. Right off the bat, the iPhone 11 may feature a new "waterproof" display technology that will allow the device to recognize gestures and taps even when under water. Nifty? Sure. But the reality is that this feature, if true, isn't of much practical value to the vast majority of iPhone users. At the very least, if the iPhone 11 makes it easier to detect gestures on those rare occasions when you're trying to use your iPhone while walking in the rain, we're not going to complain. Another interesting rumor from Weinbach relays that Apple has been working on iPhone models with a next-gen Taptic Engine with "directional precision." The details are murky, but Weinbach claims that it will enable users to feel vibrations from various parts of the screen. Imagine, for example, tapping a button on the upper right-hand quadrant of the phone and feeling an accompanying vibration from that exact area as well. Admittedly, this isn't a game-changer but this particular rumor is somewhat intriguing. As for other iPhone 11 features we've come across over the past few weeks and months, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo anticipates that the iPhone 11 will include a larger battery (and hopefully longer battery life), bilateral wireless charging, and last but not least, a triple-lens camera on the iPhone 11 Max and, hopefully, the iPhone 11 itself. There are also reports that the successor to the iPhone XR will include a dual-lens camera. Apple's iPhone 11 models will of course ship with iOS 13, a software update that should be a lot more exciting than last year's iOS 12 release. Notably, one long-desired iOS feature that will finally arrive with iOS 13 is Dark Mode. That's the good news. The bad news is that Dark Mode, according to Weinbach, may not ship until Apple drops iOS 13.1. EverythingApplePro's full video can be seen below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LomMMJWeq_E

On brink of Syria defeat, Islamic State unleashes car bombs

On brink of Syria defeat, Islamic State unleashes car bombsCapturing the village in eastern Syria will be a milestone in international efforts to roll back the jihadists, whose self-styled "caliphate" covered roughly one third of Syria and Iraq at its height in 2014. The SDF had said it expected a "decisive battle" on Sunday after advancing gradually for 18 hours to avoid land mines sown by Islamic State (IS), whose fighters are also using underground tunnels to stage ambushes and then disappear. By midday, however, there was no sign of the battle being over, and a spokesman for the U.S.-led international coalition supporting the SDF said the pace of the advance had ebbed.
