Indian tycoon Mallya denies charges at London extradition hearing Posted: 13 Jun 2017 06:19 AM PDT Indian tycoon Vijay Mallya on Tuesday insisted he was innocent as he appeared at a court in London over an extradition request from India, where he is accused of fraud. "I deny all allegations that have been made and I will continue to deny them," the flamboyant financier, who co-owns Formula One team Force India, said outside the court. Ben Watson, Mallya's representative, told the preliminary hearing that his client could face a second extradition request, including a "separate set of charges". |

US oil output hampering market rebalancing: OPEC Posted: 13 Jun 2017 03:54 AM PDT Increased oil production in the United States is hampering efforts to balance out market supply and demand, OPEC said on Tuesday. While a "rebalancing of the market" was "underway," it was "at a slower pace than originally anticipated," the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries wrote in its latest monthly oil market report. Back in November, OPEC members agreed to cut production by 1.2 million barrels per day for six months beginning from the start of the year in a bid to reduce the glut of oil supplies on the shore up prices. |

Posted: 14 Jun 2017 05:59 AM PDT A man armed with a semi-automatic weapon opened fire on a group of Republican congressman as they were practising baseball – an apparently deliberate attack on some of the most powerful politicians in the country. The men who came under fire at an early morning sports session on the outskirts of Washington DC told dramatic accounts of how they scrambled for safety behind the field's dugout as they came under fire, with at least one congressman and several aides being hit by bullets. Congressman Steve Scalise, a close ally of President Trump and the Republican whip in the House, was shot in the hip. |

The trio was arrested on Sunday after police raided their rental home and discovered a rack of some 500 smart phones hooked up to a computer. Police also confiscated nearly 400,000 Thai SIM cards allegedly purchased for the operation. |

Secret Service says it has no audio tapes of Trump's conversations with James Comey Posted: 12 Jun 2017 12:52 PM PDT The US Secret Service reportedly has no audio tapes from Donald Trump's White House, but questions remain about whether another entity or person recorded conversations between the President and former FBI Director James Comey. During a White House briefing, the President's press secretary, Sean Spicer, refused to confirm whether Mr Trump is in possession of such tapes. "The President made clear in the Rose Garden last week that he would have an announcement shortly," Mr Spicer said, referring to a press conference in which Mr Trump also told reporters "you're going to be very disappointed when you hear the answer" about the recordings. |

A staunch figure of the ruling party, Attorney General Luisa Ortega has been branded a traitor for becoming the highest public official to break ranks with Maduro. Ortega said members of her family had received threatening telephone calls and had been harassed and pursued. |

Sprint is giving away an entire year of unlimited data for free Posted: 13 Jun 2017 12:11 PM PDT Most cellphone plan deals normally come with all kinds of strings attached. Get a free iPhone! -- provided you buy two other iPhones, port three lines from another carrier, add insurance, and accept payment in the form of a Diners Club International gift card. So when Sprint quietly announced that it'll give you a year of free unlimited service, I assumed that it would only apply to people who buy a new Essential phone, or perhaps require a pledge of personal fealty to Marcelo Claure. But actually, it's a lot simpler than that.
With Sprint's new deal, all you need to do is bring your number and eligible phone (basically any recent iPhone or Android) over from one of the other big mobile networks, and Sprint will give you service for free, for one year. You get unlimited talk, text and data, plus 10GB of hotspot data and even mobile roaming. All you have to pay per line is taxes, which is a couple bucks a month. Even better is that there's no limit on the number of lines you can bring over. If you've got a family on Verizon or T-Mobile, you could be saving well over $1,000 a year, even if you're not all on unlimited plans. Of course, the big catch here is Sprint's network. Studies consistently put it in last place of the big four networks, with coverage and speed that just doesn't rival T-Mobile or Verizon. If you're committing to making the jump for a year, I'd recommend picking up a SIM and testing it in your phone for a week or two first to make sure you can still get coverage at home and at work. The bigger question here is what Sprint's really hoping to achieve. You don't have to be a genius to work out that giving away cell service doesn't make money, and there's a good chance that people will switch back to a different provider (or take advantage of one of the other carrier's switching offers) at the end of the year, and Sprint will have given you a year of service for nothing. The most cynical answer is that Sprint is trying to artificially fluff subscriber numbers before a potential merger or sale of the company, which Sprint's Japanese owner is said to be actively looking to do. Suddenly adding a bunch of postpaid customers -- even customers that aren't actually paying any money -- looks good for any potential buyer, providing they forget to check the deals section of Sprint's website first. |

Krispy Kreme vs. Dunkin’ Donuts: Which is Best? Posted: 12 Jun 2017 03:17 PM PDT A glazed treat from either of these iconic donut chains is delicious, but how do the biggest players in the donut game stack up when they go head-to-head? Whether you're sprinkle savvy or gaga for glaze, Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' Donuts have a little something for every sweet tooth and a lot of caffeine for every addict. You know you're in for a treat when you order from either chain, but when it comes to nutrition, Krispy Kreme seems to be the lesser of two evils. |

Netanyahu says does not want 'escalation' in Gaza Posted: 13 Jun 2017 07:44 AM PDT Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday he was not seeking an "escalation" in the Gaza Strip after his government moved to reduce electricity supplies to the Hamas-run enclave. Israel's security cabinet decided on Sunday to reduce the daily amount of electricity supplied to Gaza by between 45 and 60 minutes, Israeli media reported. Gazans currently receive only three or four hours of electricity a day, delivered from the territory's own power station and others in Israel and Egypt. |

New Model 3 pictures give us a clear look at the car’s interior design Posted: 12 Jun 2017 04:27 PM PDT One of the most intriguing aspects of Tesla's upcoming Model 3 centers on what the final interior design is going to look like, and in particular, the car's dashboard. Whereas most car manufacturers are increasingly concerned with making the dashboard look sleek and futuristic, Tesla with the Model 3 went the completely opposite route. As we initially saw when Tesla unveiled the Model 3 last year, Tesla's upcoming EV lacks a traditional instrument cluster with gauges for items like speed and range. Though there was initial speculation regarding Tesla incorporating a HUD of some sort, Elon Musk earlier this year dashed those hopes, explaining on Twitter that the need for a traditional instrument cluster becomes far less important as cars become more autonomous. "How often do you look at the instrument panel when being driven in a taxi?" Musk asked rhetorically. That's all well and good, but the first shots of the Model 3 dash we saw last year were far from compelling. Not to worry, more recent spy shots of Model 3 prototypes out on the open road suggest that the shipping version of the Model 3 will look far more elegant than what we saw many months ago. Most recently, an enterprising Tesla enthusiast captured some brand new photos of the Model 3 interior and posted them online. As evidenced below, the Model 3 interior will feature a nice and elegant wood trim. As a point of reference, this is what the original Model 3 interior looked like. As you can tell, it's a pretty bland design. Originally posted to the Tesla subreddit, the photos below show how far Tesla has come in recent months. Assuming that Tesla's production schedule remains on track, Elon Musk has said that the final Model 3 reveal will go down sometime next month. Additionally, mass production is expected to begin next month as well, with deliveries to early reservation holders expected to commence later this year. |
US immigration sweep targets Iraqi Christians in Detroit Posted: 12 Jun 2017 04:43 PM PDT Iraqi Christians in the US are expressing alarm over the arrests of Chaldean immigrants in the Detroit area for deportation back to the war-torn nation, where they could face persecution. A number of Chaldeans, part of an ancient Christian minority in Iraq, were detained Sunday in an enforcement sweep, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said. The immigrants targeted had criminal records and were living among a community of tens of thousands of Iraqi Chaldeans in the Detroit area. |

LGBT rights marches and rallies across the U.S. Posted: 13 Jun 2017 11:42 AM PDT On Monday June 12, Gays Against Guns and 20 partnering LGBTQ nightclubs participated in the one year anniversary remembering the 49 victims of the Orlando Pulse Nightclub massacre in New York City. On Sunday, in the nation's capital, and dozens of other cities across the U.S., supporters of LGBT rights mobilized for marches and rallies, celebrating their gains but angered over threats to those advances.
